Chapter 4: Mental Interests and Abilities

You possess vision and foresight, and your mind is often occupied with big ideas, plans, and goals for the future. You are interested in what is possible and what is on the horizon, rather than what has already been done. The study of philosophy, religion, politics, or education is of interest to you, and you are more concerned with theories and concepts than with specific applications. You are not inclined to focus on any one practical, concrete area; you find it irksome to deal with details and particulars. You have a gambling instinct and enjoy speculative enterprises and new ventures. Business, advertising, and promotion would be good areas for you also. You are often involved in verbal exchanges, interviewing, discussing, debating, counseling, negotiating, getting and giving feedback, and sharing information. You are drawn to intelligent and verbal people, with whom you can communicate and from whom you can learn. You love to have an audience to hear your ideas, and you also appreciate eloquent presentations by others. You are not interested in subjects that are wholly abstract or technical. There must be a personal, human element to evoke your interest. Your interest is people and their inner motivations, feelings, personal lives, and experiences. You are a natural listener with a talent for getting others to talk about their lives, dreams, desires - the things that are personally meaningful to them. You could also be an excellent writer, reporter, or biographer. You have a particular interest in the past. You are concerned either with personal history (childhood and early family experiences, genealogy, etc.) or with the roots and origins of societies (archeology, mythology, history, etc.). You are nostalgic and love to hear others' life stories and to discuss your own experiences and feelings. You like to read biographies and memoirs, and probably keep a diary or journal yourself. You also have the ability to be a successful public speaker. You are an original thinker, capable of unique discoveries and innovations, but you tend to scatter your energies in too many directions at once and to make impulsive or hasty decisions. You grasp ideas very quickly and become impatient with duller or more conservative minds. A fast-moving, mentally stimulating, and unpredictable atmosphere suits you quite well, even though you may complain about the stress and the crazy pace. You have a technical bent and are interested in the newest scientific theories and findings, electronics, computers, etc. You are very thorough and are likely to commit yourself to some type of study or research work. Not very talkative, you try to avoid contact with others as much as possible and prefer to do your work in seclusion or solitude. There seems to be a nervous unrest about you and you tend to speak to others with great enthusiasm. Always knowledgeable about the newest information, you appear to be well read. Your discussions with other people are likely to be very exciting.
